                                                                    AIRPORT

Airport is a fiction book written by Arthur Hailey. What would happen if one of the best and busiest airports in USA becomes one of the worst and craziest workplaces?. In my opinión that is what the writer intends. He joins some of the typical and well known situations that can happen in an airport, and the fact that all happens at the same time, make it burst into a really tough situation almost imposible to manage.

The main characters are Mel Bakersfeld, the airport general manager and his lover Tanya, an air hostess; Vernom Demerest, a pilot that is always complaining with Mel about the selling of assurance policies by airport personnel.; Joe Patroni, the pilot of the airplane crossed on the runway.; Mrs Quonset, the old lady that travels in everyplane as a stowaway, and finally D.O. Guerrero, a looser that tries to getmoney for his family by blowing up a bomb in a plane after he had bought a life insurance policy.

         The Plot

The plot of the book is centered around Lincoln International Airport in Chicago, during one of the worst snowstorms anyone in there remembers. With such a big storm the main problema for the responsable man of an airport is to keep it open under any circumstances and that responsability i son the airport general manager, Mel Bakersfeld. But Mel’s problems are not only the storm but also his difficult relationships with his wife and his colleagues at work. In order to do this story more interesting, the writer introduces more problems , like a passenger with a bomb ín his lap, a runway closed due to an airplane laying sideways crossed on it, and a demonstration made up of people from the nearest neighbourhood, that packs the terminal with people complaining for the noise and asking the airport to be closed. In addition to this, the relationships between workers in the airport start getting rougher and all of them lose their temper.

         Character

In general this book is a fiction story that could become truth due to the fact that everything the writer tells, could really happen. The writer takes you inside the different characters and he shows us their concerns and experiences, their hopes and fears. I have easily sympathized with the characters, the pilots, the air hostesses, the air traffic controllers and maintenance workers. These characters have their proffesional pressures and their own ways of dealing with them.

         Conclusion

A fast-moving book, in my opinion to be read in one sitting. It's full of intrigue, well organized, easy and pleasant to read.
